St Martin's Church, Stamford
A small group of TASS members met to update and review an inventory of St Martin's Church artifacts.
The inventory has now been digitised ready to be enhanced and updated with photos, dimensions and details of any inscriptions and materials.
Arts Society Trails
There are 38 Trails of Discovery in the East Midlands area, but none have been created locally to Stamford for a long time. Anyone can create a ‘trail’ to guide people around local places of interest. Trails can be aimed at different audiences - adults, children, those with special needs, including memory difficulties, groups with specific interests etc.
No experience is needed to create a trail and there are plenty of resources and help readily available. To find out more click the links or email: trails@theartssociety.org
Browne's Hospital 2024/25
One of our members is the curator of Browne’s Hospital in Stamford. He discovered an extensive archive and a project was undertaken to catalogue this archive.
Caroline Bendix, our Arts Society conservation expert, advised the group and produced a bespoke programme specifically for Browne’s Hospital. By classifying each item using this programme, a picture is developing of the history and times of Browne’s Hospital. Over 1850 documents have been listed.
Further work is planned as there are boxes of correspondence and of invoices and receipts dating back to 1720 which have been catalogued as bundles but need studying to see to what extent they may throw further light on the history of this spectacular Alms House.
